The Dain Curse (DVD)

Originally released as a five-hour miniseries, this murder mystery based on the book by Dashiell Hammett (THE MALTESE FALCON, THE THIN MAN) stars Acadamy Award winner James Coburn (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN) as money-minded detective Hamilton Nash. Investigating a diamond heist that looks like an inside job, Nash is told of a supposed curse on the Dain family, said to inflict sudden and violent deaths upon those in their vicinity. Young Gabrielle Leggett-Dain, equally involved in a mysterious cult and a morphine addiction, soon turns up misisng, making her the most likely culprit. But her father has some skeletons in the closet, and nothing is what it seems in this strange, occultish family. Nash must untangle a web of robberies, spells, and human sacrifices before the final, shocking denouement.
